Viola - Kurt Zöphel

This professional Kurt Zöphel viola is constructed of a solid 1 piece maple back and spruce top. It has been upgraded with the following Wittner materials:

Bridge grade level is A-grade (3-Tree/Superieur). 

Kurt Richard Zöphel was a student of noted Germany Paul Heberlein, the most notable of the Heberlein makers. In 1949, Zöphel passed the master's examination and established himself in Markneukirchen, Germany.

Zöphel prepared his lacquers personally, and his works are triumphs of violin making. This is demonstrated on this instrument with its precisely crafted edge inlay, beautifully flamed single-piece maple back and beautifully carved snail.
